Lovable review

AI app builder (vibe coding)

ToolSift score8/10

Why 8/10: Top pick for vibe coding: the shortest documented path from a prompt to a hosted web app, simple credit pricing with no per-seat charge and clear code ownership terms. Points off for credit-based costs that are hard to predict, credits that expire, and the usual limits of AI-generated code once an app gets complex.

What it does

Lovable describes itself as "an AI software engineer" that lets anyone build websites and web apps by chatting, with no technical knowledge needed. In practice you type a request ("build me a landing page with a sign-up form"), Lovable generates the code and a live preview, and you keep refining in conversation. A Plan Mode lets you discuss changes before they are made, at 1 credit per message; in the default mode the credit cost depends on how complex the task is. Lovable's own pricing page gives examples: "Make the button gray" costs 0.50 credits, adding sign-up and login costs 1.20, and a landing page with three generated images costs 1.70.

Lovable also runs the app for you. Its Cloud hosting is included in every plan with a monthly grant, and Lovable says that for most small or new apps hosting costs nothing beyond that grant. Apps with significant traffic or size start drawing on your credit balance. The same balance can pay for AI features you build into your app, so one bill covers building, hosting and in-app AI.

Ownership is stated plainly: Lovable's pricing FAQ says you own the code, the apps and websites you build, customer data stored in Lovable and the AI output you generate, subject to any third-party rights in the underlying AI models. Workspaces allow unlimited members on every plan, and owners can set per-member monthly credit limits so one person cannot drain the shared pool.

Against our runners-up: Replit Agent suits people who want a full cloud development environment with a database and deployment in one place, and who are comfortable seeing more of the code; Bolt.new suits fast in-browser prototyping across several frameworks. Lovable's edge is the polish of the first version and the fact that building, hosting and in-app AI all come out of one credit balance, which keeps things simple for non-developers. If you outgrow it, your code is yours to take elsewhere.

Our verdict

Lovable is the easiest way we know of for a non-coder to get from an idea to a working, good-looking web app. You describe what you want in chat, Lovable writes the app, and it can host it on a lovable.app address or your own domain. Plans are priced by credits rather than seats, so a whole team can share one workspace. It is the right first stop for prototypes, internal tools and MVPs. It is not a replacement for an engineer once you need complex backend logic, strict security review or full control of your stack.

✅ Pick it if
You can't code (or don't want to) and want a good-looking, hosted first version of a web app quickly, shared with your team on one bill.
⛔ Skip it if
You need complex backend logic, strict compliance sign-off, predictable fixed costs, or zero dependence on one vendor's build-and-host loop.
